Port Villa // Vanuatu
Client: Government of Vanuatu
A group of Government buildings existed on the site. The new library and archives building design is in sympathy with the existing museum and women’s building.
Thoughts were given and discussions held with the local project manager on choice of materials and construction methodology to ensure ease of construction using materials that had stood the test of time. ‘Traditional Natangora’ roof for the entry, local ‘Coral Stone’ for the feature wall, ‘Native Timber’ for entry ceiling frames, ‘Woven mat’ for ceiling linings, and ‘Native Timber’ for joinery were all incorporated in the building to ensure the design did not depart from tradition and gave a sense of belonging to the locals.
