Client: Heritage Hotel

The Heritage Auckland Hotel stands strong and proud over Auckland’s Waitemata harbour.

The Convention Centre occupies the lower floors of the historic warehouse and retail building. It comprises a central lobby foyer accessed directly off the street or from a set of stairs from the main lobby and entry above and surrounded by various sized function and meeting rooms. In the new refurbishment, the designers have sought to enrich and reveal the building’s golden floors and dark red /brown columns and to develop the contrast between the solid industrial and the fine crafted detail.

A golden ‘art deco’ rug with organic design creates a rich and powerful base for a palette of warm gold browns in furniture and walls. Sets of Michael Draper patina steel and glass tables of different heights and scale recall the machinery of a past era and provide options for the staff for different settings. Timber easels outside each function room entry recall the tradesmen and artists of that era and function as signboard and welcome. New uplights uplift the central foyer area and add a crisp and clean feel.
