AUCKLAND CITY // NEW ZEALAND
The internet services group of Telecom , a major telecommunications company in New Zealand, was expanding at a rapid rate and the upper level of the USG finances building on Graham street, overlooking the harbour, and immediately below, the developing Viaduct area, provided a single floor plate for their new operations.
The concept proposed a central hub between the two atria where the visitor and staff member arrived and visual and physical access from the hub to all groups areas would be controlled by a series of interlocking pivoting door-like panels. Galleries around the atria led to toilet facilities at each end of the building. Private shared meeting rooms splayed out towards the harbour views from the hub and could be accessed by staff without passing through the central hub / reception. From the hub the visitor passes through the panels into open plan work areas surrounded, to a boat shape, by walls / partitions to the South (city edge) and by columns of storage units and glazed partitions to the North The media and workrooms form the Western perimeter to the open plan workspaces. The meeting and conference rooms, relaxation spaces and decks form the Eastern and harbour edge perimeter..
